The creative journey of Yidan Zhang is driven by a profound fascination with the narrative power of images. To her, each photograph is an ongoing fiction, a story unfolding within a single frame. Growing up in a city where the arts and culture industry was underdeveloped, her primary escape was the local cinema. Those few hours in a darkened theater transported her to other worlds, a sensation that has profoundly influenced her life and work. This early exposure to visual storytelling has made images an inseparable part of her existence, guiding her towards a path where reality and imagination intertwine.

In her work, Yidan Zhang strives to create images that inhabit the space between truth and illusion. Through her lens, she explores themes of social change, the human experience, feminism, the occult, and the nuanced aspects of human nature. Fashion photography is one of the mediums through which she expresses these ideas, and she is eager to further explore photography, moving images, and installation art in the future.
